Updates:

LOGGING: The logging contractors are hoping to complete their work by end of Jan 2014!
However as from 20th Dec to 5th Jan you will be able to ride along all of Old Coach Road now – or you can even climb or descend the new 4WD logging road in the logging block (Danzig). To head up leave from the Woolshed at end of Stratton St and just head north and you will end up on Old Coach Rd!
Reminder you can also ride Bull-a-Varde and descend Bull Run (Grd 4)  to Hill Rd now also!  Its even easier and possible to complete a loop ride now too!
INFO: The new trail that replaces Danzig (4 Degrees) is being marked out now and will be built next year, paid for by GWRC! It is much longer than the old Danzig climb, less steep and will be 1.5m wide with an all weather firm surface.
BULL RUN: The Bull Run Open Day last Sunday had 50 riders and Hutt News will put an article in next week.
Here is a great video from Caleb at SPOKE Magazine of Cowboy showing us how to ride it…

We are well underway with grooming and tweaking the Bull Run, and are over half way!
If you can make it this Sunday and can spare even just an hour then go to the top of Normandale Rd and then ride in 1km on Old Coach Rd. (Looking at what is left of the Danzig forest on the way!)
Turn right at Bull-a-Varde sign, then left at gap in wire fence and make your way down on the Bull Run (under construction).
Or it may even be quicker to Walk up from the bottom, via Hill Road, Belmont.  Look for the gate on the left just prior to main top car park entrance to park!
Tools provided.
Hope to see ya there!

The closure will be operational between 7am and 5pm Monday to Saturday

The boundaries of the operational area are marked with orange barrier mesh. This is to allow tree felling and log extraction to occur in a safe manner. Any enquiries can be directed to Jeremy Paterson, Belmont Regional Park Ranger, cell: 027 443 0362

Thanks to Mico Plumbing

micoplumbingA special thanks goes out to Mark Drew and Mico Plumbing in Wellington to a gift of 50 metres of Novacoil piping.  The will come in very handy as we near the completion of the Bull Run, which requires a little bit of drainage in several places.  Thanks also to Matt for organising this.

A windfall for BAMBA

I would like to take a minute to write about how much I appreciate working for an organisation that takes its civil and community responsibilities seriously. The Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) has for years given every single employee 2 paid volunteer days to use for projects that are dear to their heart.

This small New Zealand bank is owned by a much larger Aussie bank, the National Australia Bank (NAB), which also operates with the same corporate duty, giving their employees the same benefit. They also offer grants to employees that donate their time to community organisations above and beyond the 2 days given to them.

I am please to announce that I was successful in securing a $2000AUD grant for BAMBA, which will be put to great use on the many park initiatives that will be underway over the next year.

So, the next time you think of the BNZ as just another big greedy bank that is solely focused on profit and screwing the little guy, take pause and consider the good that they do, such as these small community grants right up to the Kiwi for Kiwis

The Bull Run Progress

Cowboy and Karl playing on the new drop down and berm that was rough cut in this morning.  Progress is going well with a few extra Sunday sessions.  Jeremy has the mini digger up there at the moment, so hopefully the next work day there will be some berms through the grass area.  At this pace we are on schedule to have a spring reveal of the finished (and full groomed) track, just in time for everyone to enjoy over summer.
