General Business
BAMBA now have a cheque book with signatories Steve, Marco & Nicole.
Marco was reimbursed $143.50 for Incorporation and working bee morning teas.
Marco has contacted Corrections Dept to ask for labour to help spread the gravel onto Danzig. They can supply prisoners but need radio contact. Marco will test PNP radios to see if they will work. Tyrone will ask Tim O’Connor if his 4WD truck can cart the gravel up and down the 4WD track half way to 5 points that have been marked with stakes by Tyrone and Marco. Chris said “Go ahead†and ask Grant, his driver. GWRC will pay for this. Chris advised that he wanted prisoners rather than PD labour, because prisoners perform better. Marco will confirm with Corrections.
Working Bee Sunday 25th April 10am at the top of Danzig. We will rake off pine needles before the gravel is spread.
Tyrone to get a price for shovels at Mitre 10 and Bamba supply cheque or ask Ground Effect. Marco advised Ground Effect has already given us $1,000 for tools but a few have gone missing. Matt has the wheelbarrow, Marco has 3 mattocks and Hoz has buried some tools in Danzig forest that we can’t locate. Craig has some tools too.
Marco showed the 3 Nature Valley sponsored “MTB Code of Conduct†signs and Chris said he would look at installing them but wanted Regional Park consistency. Ian explained that they were being installed nationwide in MTB Parks. We need to add them to large track map signs at Park entrances. We didn’t fully resolve this issue and will await comments from Chris.
We asked that the “MTB Code of Conduct†be added to GWRC brochures. Ross rand me yesterday and said Simon Kennett already had done this.
Tyrone advised that we need trail signage that names the trails, advises direction, shared or MTB only, and length & difficulty. He will get a map from Ross and mark it up with help from Steve.
Chris advised that any “change in service levels†needed to go through GWRC for their signoff. This refers to changing a walking track to an MTB track, or any new tracks planned.
Ian advised that 12 volunteers had signed up to “Adopt a Trail†in Wellington. We should look to volunteers on a similar basis. Marco was happy to adopt Choppers.
Ross advised that the public expectations of trails were rising and that good surfaces were expected on multiuse trails. We therefore need to keep Danzig smooth and graveled because it is multiuse, but other MTB only trails could be rough.
Tyrone advised that no progress had been made with our website so Marco offered to ask Simon Gwyn at BikeNZ to help us. Simon has agreed to be our webman, big thanks. Simon is the PNP MTB webman. Yesterday Marco paid $101 to buy the domain www.bamba.org.nz and included up to 5 email addresses. One created is info@bamba.org.nz This is an annual fee. Simon will create
a Home page and pages for Contacts, Minutes, Calendar, Events, Membership, etc. He needs our logo from Nicole please.
Marco advised our IRD number is 104-263-585.
Ross advised that the Network Management Plan draft is due out at the end of May for Public Consultation and we will submit. There are 6-7 user groups in Belmont Regional Park and we need to communicate together. Steve will send a brief about BAMBA to Janie Cook Ph 565 1297, 246 Park Rd, Belmont for the Friends of Belmont newsletter and get us added. We should keep membership free to maximize numbers.
Chris advised BRP office is Ph 586 6614 and 2 degress were installing a cell site tower above Maungaraki water tower, Honeysuckle Gr, which should cover the bottom of Stratton St.
