PNP 90th Anniversary

PNP 90th Anniversary, Sat 11th June 6:30-10:00pm
Tickets on sale NOW: pnp90th.eventbrite.co.nz

Only $15 for adults and U16 free. Please book early to help us with catering.

90 years ago this June, a group of people came together for a meeting, and voted to start a club dedicated to cycling in the Wellington region. That Club has changed, amalgamated and grown to serve numerous people over the last 90 years, and is known today as the Port Nicholson Poneke Cycling Club.
On the 11th of June, 90 years after that first meeting was held, we invite members and supporters, both past and present to come together to celebrate.

The programme for the night will include the following;
• Craft beer, wine, non-alcoholic drinks, nibbles and cake
• Speaker: Samara Shepherd
• Speaker: Kate McIlroy
• Speaker: Pete Latham
• Presidents presentation

This auspicious event will be held at Sustainability Trust, 2 Forresters Lane (off Tory Street). The venue is casual and welcoming, the catering will be delish, and the speakers are definitely worth getting off the couch for!

So, in an age where nothing seems to last very long, don’t miss this opportunity to acknowledge the legacy that has gone before, the passion that exists today, and to help ignite an enthusiasm for the Club to propel brightly into the future (all be-it on two wheels).

Connect Four

Hi All. Heads up ……..Another Trail is now on offer in Belmont Regional Park. “Connect Four” is now open for Riders and walkers.
A HUGE thanks to the team at Trail Fund NZ for recently allocating one of Five grants this round of $1,500 to help BAMBA in assisting to make this trail possible. Plus of course thanks to GWRC and Valley Landscapes.

Connect Four is a short two way (intermediate) trail, off 4 Degrees, which will take you up to very near the start of Weta so a small loop is now possible. Or simply ride up and back down Connect Four it you so desire and are not keen on returning back down Weta. (Connect Four will also join up to the future planned down hill trail from the top of 4 Degrees See below).

Note future plans are for some repair / upgrade work to commence on weta to bring it up to a Intermediate standard . At some stage work will hopefully commence also on a intermediate “one way” down hill only trail from near the top of 4 Degrees.

This will hopefully remove some of the downhill traffic off 4 Degrees and will end at the top sections of both Connect Four and Weta.

On another note sure looks like winter is starting to nip at our heels however we hope your all getting out when and where possible and enjoying all those great trails on offer around our city.

Stay warm, Ride hard and Enjoy! Happy Trails.

Working Bee / Trail Building – Sunday May 1st. 9am – 12pm.

Reminder this coming Sunday (1st MAY ) – 9 am till 12pm.
Work is now in earnest on the new connector – 4 Degrees to Weta etc. Were busy bowling out stumps prior to benching.
If you require a lift to the site a vehicle or two will be leaving at 9 am from End of Old Coach Road. (OCR) Normandale.

IMPORTANT NOTE TOO ALL:  For this date we are required to make access via OCR – off Normandale road and need to go down and come back up the logging road too due to the Iron Man being held that same day in the park.
(They have a transition area at the woolshed and Ranger has stated we need to come in Via OCR at Normandale)
This will mean either parking and biking in along OCR or getting a lift at 9 am with those who have a 4WD and park at Weta Entrance then walk a tad like we did last working bee gone.
(Note however that 4WD Vehicles will be required to go in as one group together and come out as one group as gate must be locked).
Otherwise you will need to make your own way there via bike of foot!
Go along OCR and down Slogger logger track (gravel road) and take the link on the left (directly opposite Weta entrance) make your way to where Black Ute is parked!.
Hope to see you there.

The meeting is to elect a new president after the recent resignation of our current president. All are welcome to put their name forward for the role or to attend to support the candidate they would like to see continue the good work of our outgoing president, Tyrone McGrath.

Valley Landscape

valleysmallI would like to thank Paul O’Hagan and his boys from Valley Landscape who have donated their time to build the bridge at the bottom of the New Big Weta.  These are the same guys who have built the new 4 degrees trail which I am sure will become the main way of getting up to Old Coach Road.  They now join the list of supporters who have helped us over the years and will permanently have their logo on the web page.IMG_5060
